ABB’s shore-to-ship power solutions help to reduce emissions by 98 per cent and cut noise and vibrations in ports substantially by connecting ships to the port's electricity grid via shore-to-ship power connection. Our total solution includes electrical infrastructure on ships (retrofits or new installations); electrical infrastructure in ports with engineered and integrated systems to fit all types of ports, and connection and control solutions to ensure personnel safety and seamless power transfer.
ABB pioneered shore-to-ship technology at the beginning of the millennium by delivering the world’s first high voltage shoreside power connection for the Swedish port of Gothenburg in 2000. Since then, ABB has provided ports throughout Asia and Europe with shore-to-ship solutions, the most recent was inaugurated at the Stena Line ferry terminal at the port of Rotterdam in July 2012 and it is one of the world’s largest turnkey shore-to-ship power installations.
ABB also supplies turnkey shipside solutions for shoreside power connections, and has provided solutions for all types of vessels worldwide, including container ships, bulk carriers, LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers, cruise liners and FSO (floating storage and offloading) vessels.
